BIM Documentation

Technical and informational documentation for compliant, shared, and efficient design

BIM documentation is an essential phase in the integrated design process. It involves the production, management, and sharing of all technical and informational documents that describe a building project according to the Building Information Modeling (BIM) method.

Projectstudio supports contracting authorities, designers, and companies in the correct preparation of BIM documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, alignment between the parties involved, and smooth and traceable management of project data.
Project Attachments

The main BIM documents

In the BIM context, documentation is not merely a project attachment, but represents a structured system for the exchange and control of information. The main BIM documents we draft and manage are:

BIM organizational document

A document drawn up by the contracting authority that defines the organizational framework of the project and involves all parties in the construction process. It represents the initial reference point for effective BIM governance.

Information Specification (IS)

Drawn up by the BIM Manager of the Contracting Authority, in agreement with the RUP, the IR describes in detail the technical specifications and information requirements. It is the basic document for defining the information objectives of the contract and the criteria for verifying the models.

Exchange Information Requirements (EIR)

A strategic document that specifies the client's information requirements, the data required at each design stage, the expected levels of detail, and the methods of model delivery. It guides all information production and exchange activities.

Digital Platform

Document management according to UNI 11337

BIM document management is defined by the UNI 11337 standard as a Data Sharing Environment (ACDat). It is a centralized digital platform that allows for the secure and controlled sharing of all information content, with a system of versioning, approvals, and hierarchical access.

The ACDat is a fundamental element in ensuring traceability, transparency, and collaboration between all participants in the project.

Who drafts the BIM Information Specification (CI)?

The Information Specification (CI) is one of the fundamental documents of the BIM process. It is drafted by the BIM Manager of the Contracting Authority, a technical figure responsible for clearly and structurally defining the technical specifications, information requirements, and operating procedures necessary for the correct execution of the project.
The CI is drafted in agreement with the RUP (Sole Project Manager), thus ensuring alignment between the technical requirements and administrative objectives of the project. This document forms the contractual and operational basis for all parties involved and is crucial to the success of a BIM-based project.
